IRIE-ISH : A tribute and memorial to Benjamin Zephaniah

Irie-Ish Flyer (Benjamin Zephaniah Memorial)

This event was organised in association with the Benjamin Zephaniah Family Legacy Group, Melika Queely (local classical artist), The National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund and Birmingham Irish Association.

All the performers were multicultural young people from Birmingham who wanted to show their appreciation of Dr Benjamin Zephaniah through music. poetry and dance. There was also an Auction Raffle of unique hand-made Zephaniah canvas murals to raise funds for the Acorns Children’s Hospice appeal.

The event format included:

  • Performances from Melika Queely and young people from African/Caribbean and Irish communities
  • Speakers from the family of Benjamin Zephaniah and others
  • Presentation from Acorns Children’s Hospice
  • Donations to Acorns were actively encouraged
