Brunel University has unveiled a commemorative plaque and new outdoor space honouring the beloved poet, activist, and educator, Dr Benjamin Zephaniah.

On December 7, 2024, led by Benjamin’s family, the heart of Newham and the literary world will unite in a powerful celebration of the life and legacy of the iconic poet, writer, and activist.
Blue plaque honour to poet and activist unveiled
The plaque was commissioned by the Nubian Jak Community Trust, an organisation which highlights the contributions of Black and minority ethnic people in the country.
IRIE-ISH : A tribute and memorial to Benjamin Zephaniah
All the performers were young people from Birmingham who wanted to show their appreciation of Dr Benjamin Zephaniah through music, poetry and dance.
