The Benjamin Zephaniah Forest Celebration Day will be taking place on Saturday, 18 July, 12pm – 3pm at Burbury Park, Newtown, B19 2HX. (See the flyer here)
It has been more than a year since Birmingham TreePeople (BTP) launched the Poetry Tree Trail within the Benjamin Zephaniah Forest at Burbury Park. To honor the legacy of Benjamin Zephaniah and celebrate the vibrant return of summer leaves and flowers, BTP invite you to join them for the Benjamin Zephaniah Forest Celebration Day.
In the spirit of Zephaniah’s creativity, the day will feature a poetry open mic hosted by @bradleytaylorpoet and @zakariyyee as well as some activities and workshops. BTP are also thrilled to have John’s Drummers returning to the forest, having previously performed at the launch event for the space.
We encourage you to bring your own poems to perform and to pack all your picnic needs, such as blankets, chairs, snacks, and refreshments.
The Benjamin Zephaniah Forest is made up of 65 trees, consisting of 32 different species and cultivars. Twelve of these trees form a new community orchard on the western edge, including pear, apple and plum varieties. Each of the trees are accompanied by their own poem from wonderful poets all across Birmingham.
Here are some pic of the space coming into fruition. (click here)
This is a free community event, open to all.
